I have a DL380p Gen8 server and the following card - https://www.startech.com/en-us/hdd/pex8m2e2

The blurb says

The adapter connects directly to your computer motherboard to support two PCIe M.2 SSDs through a x8 PCIe expansion slot. The adapter is compatible with PCIe 3.0 motherboards and is backward compatible with PCIe 2.0 and PCIe 1.0.

But I'm unable to get the DL380p Gen8 Server or Server 2019 to see the card - am I right in thinking this should work?

Cheers

My DL380s won't recognize M.2 however it is applied, I've got a SATA to M.2 drive bay adapter and one of these and gave up on all counts!

Currently all 12 bays are full with 6TB drives in prep for becoming a backup server - was hoping the PCI Card with M2 SATA would work for the OS.

Wondering if I can connect an SSD via the OOD Sata Port on motherboard.

M.2 is just the connector, you have SATA and NVME variants, and you can't just use a drive in either and expect it to work.

The card you listed is for NVME M.2 drives, not SATA.

I have both NVME and SATA M.2 drives available... Neither work.

It's weird that the SATA adapter doesn't work, unless the server locks out drives it doesn't "support"?

I have a couple of adapters in my home machine and they're just fine

That's what I thought too... But I can't make it work.

The Sata M.2 in either adapter works in a Dell R710 but not in an HP DL380 (Gens 6-8). I stuck a generic chinese SSD in a drive bay of the DL and that worked just fine.:confused:

Purchased 2 x Samsung 970 EVO Plus, 500 GB, M.2 stick to go in the PCI card and now the Gen8 Server is now seeing the card and sticks as "Other Mass Storage Controller" - so that is a good sign........

However..... Server 2019 refusing to install on them as it says about may not boot due to BIOS Settings - even though i've set it as the primary boot device
