Free to air TV

I've never had Sky just Freeview but to get it into our bedroom requires a new aerial which will cost around £150. It's too high for me to attempt to fit it. So I thought Browse for Products | CPC this would be the answer. Judging by the direction the other dishes are pointing, it can be mounted pretty well adjacent to where the TV socket is in the bedroom. I assume the cable is different to standard TV coax but are there different connectors as well. Will I need a special faceplate and can the cable be cut to length easily?

The cable from the lnb which is the thing on the end of the arm on the dish to the receiver will be a coax cable using f connectors these are easier to fit than coax ones.

 

The only thing is that unless you buy a Freesat box http://www.freesat.co.uk/index.php?page=products.Main you will not get the electronic epg only the now and next on the channels, this is becuase they have encrypted the epg.

I've got freeview running from a little hoop arial that came with the portable TV in my bedroom. As for aerials, I fitted a new one in my loft. Screwfix about £18 - £20 Hi gain one. Also put a 4 way splitter up there and connected every other TV in the house to it. Lovely picture. Whole lot including reel of coax, ends and clips only came to about £45. The only reason the one in the bedroom is on the loop aerial is because I have the main one in the back of my PC to use on the TV card.

We are in a cr@p signal area Steve The epg is not a big deal. We only tend to use the bedroom tv if there are programmes that clash ie. I want to watch an educational programme when "Corrie" or Eastenders is on.

educational programmes? are they the sort you pay about 5 per night to watch or are we crossing wires here?

LOL! Sounds like my house. Don't get a look in when the soaps are on. That's the reason for the TV card. But when I can't be bothered to switch on the PC the little portable is OK.

I just split the TV arial downstairs through an adaptor, then sent 1 cable upstairs and left 1 cable going into the freeview downstairs. Then I bought a £20 freeview box for upstairs and fed the cable into that and then into my TV.

I have Freesat via satellite using my motorised dish in the back garden and my technomate 9100 receiver, has the bonus of being a pvr as well so I can also record stuff when we have a programme clash
