Adobe CS6 on Mojave + Big Sur

So I'm going to be getting a new Macbook soon and it will have Big Sur on it.

 

Until now I've had Adobe CS6 running on Mojave.

 

It wont run on anything higher than this and I dont wish to go down the Adobe subscription route.

 

Would this work.... Mac Os Mojave on VirtualBox running on the Macbook with BigSur.

 

It's the only way I can think of running it.

What kind of MacBook? An Intel one or one with Apple silicon?

 

If the latter, I don’t think that’ll work. If the former, yes, it will work but in my experience Virtualbox is dog slow. You might be better off getting a copy of Parallels Desktop or VMware Fusion if you can afford it.

It will be the newer ones so the Apple Silicon Chip.

FYI you do get a nice sizeable discount on the Adobe Suite if you sign up as a Educator. I used it for about a year, but in future moving over to Final Cut (Also get a nice discount with being an educator) as the monthly sub is annoying i agree. But with CS6 being well past it's sell by date now and at some point you're going to have to make the jump up to a higher version or another software.

 

Also with the current lack of virtualising ability in Apple silicon i wouldn't recommend running it in a VM. In the future maybe, once parrells pulls their finger out.*

 

 

*Just seen they now support the M1 chip from last month, don't know how stable it is.

I don’t agree with paying constantly for something. I’d rather pay once and know it’s mine. This is for home, not school.

 

CS6 maybe getting old now but it is still powerful software and does everything I need it to.

Nope, doesnt work.

 

Hasnt worked since catalina, i too had a cs6 licence so it wound me up a bit, id imagine running it in a vm is a bit crap performance wise

Which bit of adobe do you use? If video you can go over to Final Cut, photoshop theres alway GIMP!

 

The education discount isn't tied to your school email, you have to verify the school email but is still tied into your personal one. You can also get discount on apple devices this way using UniDays

 

Adobe is £16 a month for all the suite for Teachers and Students, or £50 if not! So makes sense to use the discount if you do go with the SAAS option. As for Final cut, it's £200 but you also get the rest of Apples pro apps like Logic with the education offer

Virtualisation is one thing, emulation of an entirely different instruction set is another. Yes, Parallels will be able to run a VM on an ARM Mac but it won’t be able to run an x86 OS like Windows or older versions of macOS. I’m sure that the ability to run x86 VMs will come sooner or later but there will be a big performance penalty. Ask anyone who used to run VirtualPC on a PPC Mac.

 

I’m sorry but in don’t think it’s likely you’re going to be able to run CS6 on an Apple silicon Mac and if you can, I don’t think the performance of it will be anywhere near acceptable. Your options are:

 

Suck it up and buy a CC subscription

Buy an Intel Mac

that said if youre not doing anything but basic image stuff, the serif stuff on osx is cheap and would probably do the job
