We need a new MFD in Reprographics. Financial procedures require 3 quotes, but it obviously isn't the sort of unit we can get three quotes on without going through the whole sales pitch, requirements analysis etc. with new suppliers. Would any of you mind sharing (on this post on in PM) roughly what you spent on yours, or even just commenting whether our quote seems in keeping with what you're paying. That will satisfy our Business Manager we've got a fair quote.

The machine we're looking at is 90ppm, mono, 4 paper trays totalling 3000 sheets, booklet finisher and stapler, hole punch, card reader. We've been quote a bit over £8K with page costs of 0.26p per page.

Thanks.

We are going through the same, I will come back with the figures shortly. Note we will only have two quotes even though financial procedures requires 3(we are too busy)

Your best option for MFDs is to purchase or lease throug a Framework agreement, that way you don't need 3 quotes as the agreement has already been put to tender and the framework ensures you get a good price, but also, importantly, good terms and conditions. We use KCS: https://www.kcs4ps.co.uk/education but there are others available through CPC, CCS, etc.

Perhaps true, although we work with a local company (who some of you may be dealing with over Framework anyway) and their service goes beyond what you'd get from the Frameworks so we deal direct.

Framework or not, my question is still valid though - if you have recently bought a similar beast of a unit, knowing what it cost you on the Framework would be useful.

Fair enough. We lease our machines so can't compare directly but that seems like a valid price for what you are looking for.

Should really be putting it through a framework. Just submit your requirements and then you can compare.

0.26p mono is expensive. Currently paying 0.19ppp

Units are 65ppm colour & mono with all the above additions. Rental cost a shade under £1000 per year under 3Y agreement

That's the cost of the value-add for the other things they do, e.g. routine preventative maintenance visits, Papercut support, etc.

There's a big price jump when you go up to speeds like 90ppm.

You maybe able to get 2 x 50ppm machines cheaper than a 90ppm machine so something to look at.

Sharp have a feature called Tandem print where you can set the job off on one and half comes out each, so same capacity but 2 machines, added resilience and can use in single mode. I've seen it work out cheaper to get 2 lesser machines overall you would work out at 100 ppm.

Interesting idea. I don't think we've got the space in that room to accommodate two machines, even smaller ones, though.

I'm looking at a different brand, 45ppm, 4 paper trays, booklet finisher, 50k monthly volume, £260 per quarter, £0.0023 mono £0.023 colour.
