fiza Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 A question for those schools with large year groups. If you are now using video parents evening Systems do you try to cram in the parents evening into one evening or do you spread it across 2 days? Where we have Teachers possibly teaching 3 to 4 sets it makes it very difficult to give every parent a time slot.
rush_tech Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 In the last few year we have started to split the year group into 2 for parents evening. This has worked quite doing them online aswell 1

Couple of follow up questions if I may. When you say "split the year group into 2" do you mean over 2 nights? If so how many hours did the events last for per night? How did your Teachers feel about this if each Parents Evening was over 2 nights?

Yes split over 2 night initially when things were 'normal' I think there was a little opposition to this. But when the evening moved online it was a lot better 4pm to 6.30pm 5 minute appts. With the appts enforced by the platform it finished at 6.30pm prompt. where as before with them in school that would never happen 2
DavR Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 Very similar experience to @rush_tech. We used to run our parents evenings on one night, 4-8pm, with a break. We just did our first online parents evening before Easter break, and we did 4-6.30 with a break two nights. On the booking system, it was one big event, parents could book in for either night, assuming the teacher was available (not everyone did both nights). Teachers thought it was brilliant, if there was any resistance to it being over two nights I didn't see it. They were timetabled for a bit more time in total, but, because the software enforced the time restrictions, they were all done and dusted by 6.30 each day, which they never would have been under the old system.
paulkerton Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 We've done 2 hour Parents Evenings, with 23 slots per teacher over 2 hours. 5 minutes per session. 220 students in each year. 3:30pm to 5:30pm Most have gone fine. Few parents (and one year group in particular) that weren't happy. We'll be doing an indepth survey to assess future plans in the next few weeks.
Sylv3r Posted May 4, 2021 Posted May 4, 2021 We've restricted the appointments to 4 minutes and generally the teachers see a maximum of 35 parents. We treat it on a first come first served basis - similar to if a parent wanted to go to a music concert - if they don't get in quick and there's no slots left then they go on the waiting list.
Rob_D Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 Similar to the others. We used to have big, single evening parents evenings, but when we went online we split it across 2 nights running from 16:15 - 18:03 (because schoolcloud parents evening system has set 6 minute appointment slots). As far I've seen, the teachers love it.
gmonks Posted May 5, 2021 Posted May 5, 2021 We do 2 Parents Evenings here. From 4pm - 7pm. Appointments are about 10 minutes each. First come, first served.
