Depends a lot on the wall mount used, but often the screens have a indent or slimmer section at the bottom and sides (Or somethings just one side where the AV enters). However you'd need to space it off the wall to have a plug in to a Dado socket, as you have the Dado itself, the plug socket faceplace and then your plug. Plus how do you unplug it for PAT testing or replacement without removing the screen.

 

Personally, we go with smaller mini trunking up behind the base of the screen. With the power cable, HDMI and USB in this mini trunking. Ideally with a central spine to stop them crossing over but for that short a length it's not the end of the world. Then the power cable goes in to a fused spur below the screen. PAT test wise you still need to do it (Although hardly anyone does) but the risk factor of damage to the cable which is in trunk or behind a display means you can do it every 3 or 5 years*. Otherwise you end up causing damage just to test for faults, caused by you testing it!

 

*Disclaimer, PAT testing is a very hot topic and every school should do there own risk assessment.

This is one we fit last year in a science room. The wall needed completely re-painting but for the short term we just did a section, hence why it looks a little odd.

If it's a new build, you could go with in wall conduit down to the dado trunking. Brush faceplate on the top and enter in to the Dado at the bottom. No surface trunking needed up to the display. Just plan your wall mount carefully when placing the conduit behind it.

 

We had some new classrooms done this way a year or two ago. Made sure the timber frame they built it out of had extra cross supports which lined up with our wall mounts we purchased for the job.

So that's just power in the mini-trunking?

Or does it include HDMI and USB too?

Power, HDMI and USB. That one doesn't have a divider in it but they don't twist around each other in that short length.

 

Well, I've not had any problems anyway but that doesn't mean to say you won't of course.

Excuse my electrical ignorance but how is the fused spur wired in to the lead supplied with the panel? Do you have to chop the plug off and hard wire it in?

Completely new build ? I got the contractors to hide all wiring in the wall, although we went with wall mount projectors (This was a few years ago) I also got them to install a sheet of OSB for some meat to attach the projector to

Walls were steel stud and plasterboard

 

 

If this is solid wall construction ignore me... I dislike trunking and try my best never to use the stuff If I can help it.

Yes, That is how ours are wired in. We have done similar with the trunking running behind the panels also so no wires are visible

Looks tidy - ours are basically the same but we use 38mm x 25mm trunking in the centre, leaves room for any additional that are added in the future. Usually just USB/HDMI/Power but sometimes we get asked for additionals. Would definitely stick a label on the fused spur though, saves going down to just flick a switch haha.

 

@kennysarmy - With the fused spur, you're basically spot on there. Lop the end off the power cable and (get someone sufficiently trained to) wire it in.

I suggested that but they weren't keen saying it would invalidate the warranty of the boards :(

For cutting the plug off? Never had a problem with our warranty. You often get a euro style cable so we often use that for the fused spur.

 

You do have to be careful with mounting them above radiators. We have a few like that and have installed a narrow shelf below to stop the heat going up the back of the screen.

Don't most of the screens come with an IEC cable rather than hard wired? In which case, retain the branded cable for warranty purposes and cut the plug off one of the 300 you've got neatly coiled in a box in the server room to wire in to the fused spur.
