this is the filepath to DPSConfig.ini on our server - D:\QCA testing\Admin Point System\DPS Config\

are you at the point of doing the update which came out a couple of weeks ago? if you are, these instructions should be of help -

"By default, the DPS will require configuration after the 10.1.2 software update has been installed. This can be avoided by replacing the DPSConfig.ini file from the zip file with the version that was created during your APS installation. More information on using DPSConfig.ini can be found in the Installation & Technical Guide."

So just copy your original DPSConfig.ini file to another location, run the update and move the file back.

If this doesn't help, post away, we'll get it sorted.

I have done this but the workstations still require configuration. The file obviously isnt being installed with the rest of the software. So the question is, where (on the workstation) should it be. I can just copy it across manually if anyone could tell me where to put it.

I've just run a search on the PCs we have it installed on and it doesn't find that file at all.

Try deleting the MSI from the GPO - reboot the clients and put the MSI back in the GPO with the correct DPSConfig.ini file in it.

I know - but he was looking for it to put on the work-station, so I checked to see if it did put a copy on the client - as suspected it don't.

Home time now!

Woohoo!! :D

It shouldn't be on the workstations, it is used to configure registry settings on them. If you need to configure by hand then LOCAL_MACINE\SOFTWARE\QCA\DPS\TDS\Configuration.

Surprisingly well actually, not too many problems. Got one or two of the pupils logging into the practice test area instead of the test area and one or two where it hadn't took via MSI or another package tried to install while it was running but all of those weren't really the fault of the RM software (I can't believe I just said that! ;) ).

Been running it for about 6 weeks already (we were a pilot school last year) found it has more problems than last year, keep having to restart the postmaster service every once in a while.

Also been using some wireless laptops to run the practice tests on, is anybody using this set up!

also like probably most will find the GUI is total alien to some of the students, and they find it as hard as hell to do some of the tests, the best way I’ve found (muggings here helps out in YR9 ICT lessons) is to have one session going through step by step how to use it, saves a lot of the same sort of questions from students.

I have to admit your right ticker the GUI is alien my tech went through a practice session and said he wouldn't want to do the test!

I had a look but I don't think the kids will have too much trouble TBH they'll struggle at first but by the time they get to the official tests they'll be fine I think.

glad to hear it. got mine pencilled in for after the easter break.

Well, that's easter over and done with. at 14:40 the head of ICT said she would like to run (I almost typed ruin) the familiarisation test for the last lesson today(14:45 to 15:45), starting at 14:50. god bless her cotton socks.

I've had that error message, but only on preinstalled machines, not our RIS'd ones. I've not had time to look into the whyfores and wherehows of it all though.

It doesn't appear to affect the DPS at all from what I can see.

I think this happens if you have .net framework 2.0 installed. Im sure the latest version of the DPS fixes this problem.

Recieved this response from RM:

This error would occur when installing version 10.0.12 of the DPS on a workstation that has .NET framework 2.0 installed. The DPS will work correctly, the only issue this will cause is that on uninstallation you will receive a similar error.

I have spoken to our customer services department, and you will be allocated the DPS update by tomorrow afternoon. This update will be automatically downloaded to your APS, and it will allow the DPS to be installed without error on workstations that have .NET 2.0 installed. I would recommend waiting until you receive this update before installing the DPS.
