Well, he was 97 so not that much of a shock. Nevertheless, he was a huge part of my childhood, some of my happiest memories are of my dad, my brother and me sitting down to watch the Grand Prix and it just wasn’t the same after he retired. Very sad to see him go :(

Genuinely saddened by this. He said himself he’s had a great life, lots of wonderful opportunities but still incredible sad he’s gone.

Like many, Sunday afternoon in front of the TV and listen to Murray got me hooked on F1. You can’t beat a good Murraryism

Sad loss - although he had a great life

He was the voice I grew up with about motorsport - it will never be the same again

Although if it turns out that his final words were that Lewis will win the F1 championship this year then I digging the bugger to have a word. - never seen a man that could jinx someone so totally infallibly!!!

(only joking!)

really bring tears to my eyes to think he has gone

Testing tomorrow will be subdues I'm sure - the whole paddock will be affected by this

Very sad. His voice went so well with the sport, almost like an onomatopoeia. Teaming him up with James Hunt was a genius move, too. There are other motorsports commentators that I really enjoy listening to, but Murray Walker will always stand out as the greatest of all.

Another brilliant character gone. Used to find it hilarious when he got things so badly wrong. Yet...it just suited his delivery. I remember him most fondly during the Nigel Mansell era where its pretty safe to say our Nigel didn't have the best of luck at times. Often leading until the last lap until his car let him down. Murray would often excitedly be awaiting our man to be roaring around the last corner to the finish line.....then there would be a pause....then a "any second now he will be here".....then the camera would switch to discover Mansell broken down on the grass and throwing himself out of the car in anger "OHHHH NOOOOO! NIGEL MANSELL HAS FALLEN ON THE VERY LAST LAP!!!"
