steve_nfi Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 (edited) I have a PC which has dropped out of the network for some reason. I have tried to rejoin it via the usual route. I have tried dropping it out to a workgroup and then bringing it back in but I keep getting the following message. "Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the server or shared resource and try again." I have removed the PC from AD, DHCP and DNS. I have disconnected every mapped drive, I have tried disabling the network card and re-enabling but nothing seems to work. Can anyone help please? Forgot to say that I can access the network from the local account. Edited June 9, 2008 by steve_nfi
mullet_man Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Delete the computer account from your active directory, you should be then able to add it in again. 1
steve_nfi Posted June 9, 2008 Author Posted June 9, 2008 I tried that, I also tried joining with a new name, plus removing it from DHCP and DNS but still keep getting the same message.
maniac Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Have you got a drive mapped, or other resources connected from you domain controller, (e.g sophos antivirus creates a connection to your server?) Make sure there is no other software running that's making a connection to the same server and you should be able to add it. I've had this problem before, and it can be a PITA to fix, and I seem to recall it was to do with the machine already being connected to a resource on the domain controller. (in my case it was sophos AV running its updates) Failing that, run sysprep on it then let it start up straight away and add it to the network using the mini setup, this will more than likely work. Mike. 1
MyDejaVu Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 that message appears when I use remote desktop sometimes, it happens when logged in as a domain admin account, and then using another domain admin account to do a further task, so if I use the same domain account to do all the tasks, it should be alright. regards. 1
FN-GM Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 When you are asked to put in credentials when joining the domain try another set with domain admin rights.
strawberry Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 have you joined the machine to a work group then readded it back to ad? 1

Michael Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 The error message is a strange one, not come across it myself. Try manually specifying the primary DNS server in your IP configuration (which should be your DC). 1
Whitestar Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Try removing all DNS settings from the workstation. 1
ajbritton Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 The error message suggests that there is an existing connection open between the PC and the server. I would try the following; 1 - Create a new local user account on the PC and make it a local admin (add to the Administrators group) 2 - Reboot the PC and log on as the new user account 3 - Try joining the domain again If this fails, there may be some service that is connecting to a resource on the domain. You could try booting the PC and logging on whilst disconnected from the network. Once logged in, reconnect to the network and try the domain join again. 1
SYNACK Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 I get this error if I connect to anything on the network before joining the pc to the domain. The best way to deal with this is to reboot the machine (otherwise it remembers the connection) and log in using a local administrator account with no domain credentials. Then just join it to the domain as normal before you try to connect to any mapped resource. 1
steve_nfi Posted June 10, 2008 Author Posted June 10, 2008 Hooray. Finally rejoined the network. Eventually tried everything. Disconnected every mapped drive, stopped Sophos, created new admin account, so one or all of those contributed. Thanks to everyone who contributed too. Much appreciated.
