joe90bass Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Has anyone any up to date contact details for Microsmile? Or have they gone under!?! I want to see if a 64bit TS compatible version is available but the phone goes dead, e-mails are bounced and the website is not available. It doesn't look good..........
Andie Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I'm just wondering the same thing. I assume because no one got back to you that they have gone under...???
localzuk Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 I believe they went belly up in mid 2007. We have about 30 of their packages here, half of them 16 bit.
OutToLunch Posted July 21, 2008 Posted July 21, 2008 64 bit compatible? You'll be lucky, I'm having a job getting them to run on bog standard 32 bit vanilla XP Pro stations! Yet more 16 bit rehashed PITA educational software.
Steve_Knight Posted August 14, 2008 Posted August 14, 2008 I might be opening up a can of worms here, but I wrote most of the later (32bit) MicroSMILE software (Ratio, Probability, Algebra, Enriching Number etc. etc.) and yes MicroSMILE or SMILE MATHEMATICS did go "belly up" leaving us all without jobs. They were in the final stages of releasing the next package (Discovering Number - a rewrite of older packages). If you would like to see this then please go to: Discovering Number you can download it. It is fully working. Any other problems with the software - I can only speak for the ones that I wrote - I am happy to try and sort out (I do have pride in what I do). As far as I know (I still test them on more recent platforms, Vista etc.) they still all work. Thanks Steve 4

We need to extend the number of licences we have.
Steve_Knight Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 As far as I am aware it is The Royal Borough of Kensignton and Chelsea: (Welcome to the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea) they owned Smile Mathematics, which MicroSMILE was their software side. I'd very interested to know if they are still charging for extra licences and there is nobody who would be any the wiser if you made all your SMILE software site wide - but don't quote me on that one! I was in discussion with them a couple of years back on how they were going to support the software on future platforms (Vista etc.) but they ignored my requests and comments. Let me know how you get on... Steve
Steve_Knight Posted August 15, 2008 Posted August 15, 2008 An add-on message to the above... If any one would like information regarding the "Windows" MicroSMILE software I am more than happy to respond to emails. I do actually hold ALL of the latest packages that were produced. Steve 1
jgannon Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Hi Steven Knight. I just registered because my colleagues and I are desperate to get microsmile working again. We are connecte to RM community connect three at our school and our smile programs do not work. There is no better software for Maths and it does really annoy me that it can be so easily lost. I am reaaly sorry that you lost your job over this. I bet there is still a big demand for it but most people just give up at the first problem. However, if you know of anyone who knows how to get it working on cc3 or 4 then I would love to know how. Why don't you update the software yourself? I suppose it is a matter of cost. I just think in general that software for schools isn't organised properly.
Steve_Knight Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Thank you for your comments, they are much appreciated. How old are your MicroSMILE versions - I have re-written quite a few for SMILE and I have started to re-badge some of the packages, although I am not yet sure what to do with them (see above). If you email me (send me a private message) I'll let you know which packages have been re-written and re-badged. If you can also give me a little bit more detail as to why they are not working, did they before, what is different etc. etc. I'll try and help you.
Natalie Posted December 10, 2008 Posted December 10, 2008 Hi Steve - I hope you don't mind, but I think you may be my only hope to getting ahold of the MicroSMILE games. I have moved jobs, and I am really missing some of the MIcroSMILE games from my old school!!! How can I still get ahold of the games please? I could really do with the Ratio, Rhino and Transformations games for my lessons at the beginning of January. I know the kids here would love them! I just need to know how!!! Ahhhh - help please! Looking forward to your reply! Thanks, Nat.

JayMaths Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Hi Steve, Any ideas where our school can get the MicroSmile Transformations Software from? The IT guys rebuilt the school network and can't find what is (was) a great and really useful set of programs...(maybe someone took it with them when they moved schools). It was easily the best way of showing translations/rotations/enlargements/reflections. Regards, Jase
Steve_Knight Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Jase I have the original installation disk - if you want to email a postal address, I'll slip a copy in the post. If you would be interested in purchasing the other Maths software then please let me know - £65 for all the packages: click here. Cheers Steve
Wayfarer Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Hi, I don't know if you are still following this thread... We have 5 MicroSmile titles - Angle Estimation, Ratio, Co-ordinates, Numeracy and Probability. I am working on transfering these packages from an RM CC3 network to an RM CC4 network. The first two worked fine but the last 3 did not. Co-ordinates and numeracy failed with this error: Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have approprieate permissions to access them. The Probability program worked except the Pinball game. Can you offer advice still on what might be the cause and a possible solution, or do you think recreating the packages would solve this. Unfortunately, we do not seem to have the original software media. How do I go about getting hold of these titles? Thanks.

Hi, This error sometimes appears if you are not keeping to the strict DOS eight letter folder convention. Also have you tried just copying the original CC3 folders and file structure and recreate them on the CC4 platform. The older software was never that clever on an install!! Otherwise, as above, if you let me have a postal address I'll send you an evaluation CD of the TrellisMATHS packages which have been upgraded that I offer. Please look at this link for more info. Two attachments that might be useful are: Pack Versions.pdf TrellisMATHS Publicity Factsheet - Overview.pdf Steve
nishag Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Hi Steve I used to use the Micro SmMile Graphing Software but have moved schools and we don't have it at my new place. Can you let me know where I can get it from? And all of the others please. Thanks. Nisha
Steve_Knight Posted August 7, 2011 Posted August 7, 2011 Nisha Hi, if you want to respond via the website - click here - I can send you a CD or you can download evaluation software from the site. Cheers, Steve
nishag Posted August 8, 2011 Posted August 8, 2011 Hi Steve Thanks for getting back to me. Do you have the Graphing software available? Nisha
Steve_Knight Posted August 9, 2011 Posted August 9, 2011 Nisha If you respond, as mentioned above, with a mailing address I can send you the CD. Cheers, Steve
Steve_Knight Posted October 16, 2012 Posted October 16, 2012 All I have had a number of emails recently regarding MicroSMILE and Win7 and/or 64 bit - if you would like to contact me though this forum or via my website I will be happy to help: www.trellis-est.co.uk Cheers Steve
