Hi all,

We have the Teams Machine MSI installed through group policy.

However I am struggling to see how we update it. I've read stuff around how the exe updates itself but there is not a lot of the machine msi and updates. We don't seem to get anything installed into appdata folder however in our c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Teams on each machine there is an Update.exe

The only thing we are doing is deleting the Teams regkey from HKLM\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run as that was the only way we found of stopping it auto launching.

Any ideas would be appreciated, Just want to know the best way of having up to date teams.

You can stop it launching with a json file. It should install for each user in their appdata and each user's copy updates itself.

In Program Files (x86)\Teams Installer I only have setup.json (which I added) and teams.exe

The shortcut should update it as it runs the updater before opening Teams. If you have created your own shortcut direct to the Teams exe, then that could be why it isn't updating.

So does this have to be the shortcut in appdata and not the one in C:\Program Files (x86)?

Does anyone know what the latest version of Teams is? We appear to have 4 versions running here ranging from 1.3.00.28779 to 1.3.00.34662

Mine is saying I've got the most up to date on my off the network machine, I have a feeling the msi does not auto update looking into it.

"You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.28779 (64-bit). It was last updated on 07/01/2021"

I can beat that! My machine says 'You have Microsoft Teams Version 1.3.00.30866 (64-bit). It was last updated on 11/23/20.'

Well, that's not confusing haha...

My shortcut goes to
C:\Users\fbusher\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Teams\Update.exe --processStart "Teams.exe"

Thanks for this so if we launch it using that it will update at some point?
