Home office chair recommendations!

Hi all,

 

I'm after a new home office chair.

 

Budget is £250 but could squeeze to £300.

 

The only thing I 100% need is neck/head rest, everything else I'm open to.

 

Any suggestions?

+1000 for the IKEA Markus.

 

I have it, have had it for a couple of years now, hands down the best chair I've used.

I use https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/millberget-swivel-chair-bomstad-black-70339413/ this chair at home and it's great.

 

Those standard blue operator chairs are fine too.

 

One thing I'd keep in mind about Ikea chairs is that most of their chairs have these annoying brakes on the wheels. I had to modify the wheels on mine.

I'm mulling over whether to buy a better chair and wondered what you ended up going for?

 

I currently have an Ikea Markus which is OK quality-wise but I find the foam base is a bit lacking in padding and the lack of adjustment in the armrests is frustrating as it prevents me getting quite as close to the desk as I'd like. For the price ~£150 it's OK but in hindsight I should maybe have spend a bit more for something with more adjustment.

 

Any recommendations or suggestions?

I know the feeling!

 

I'd be happy spending a bit more on a suitably supportive/comfortable chair and looked at some of the refurbished premium brand options like Herman Miller/etc but I'm apprehensive at the idea of ordering a chair that expensive which I haven't been able to sit in beforehand!

 

I had a look around locally but there don't seem to be that many stores near me these days. Most have closed down their retail stores and are now only available to order from online!

I had the same issue with the arms on the markus, they're too far forward so would bump into the desk as I scooted in. If you don't mind attempting a DIY job, I replaced them with some adjustable arms and it's been loads better - there was a semi-guide on reddit here.

 

Otherwise I'd look at 24 hour office chairs like this, I might still buy something like that instead of the markus just for the full adjustability. I can't justify dropping a ton of money on something super expensive like a HermanMiller without being able to return it really

I need a new chair. I think I'm just going to get a bog standard blue operator chair like the ones you get in the IT suites. My current chair is an "MILLBERGET" IKEA. It's getting very squeaky now and slowly sinks. Also IKEA likes using brakes on the wheels so they don't move before you sit down. It's annoying so on mine, I got a knife and sliced off the braking mechanism so the chair move freely! Edited November 20, 2021 by Protec

I have an Ikea Markus at work for a long time now, used to have one at home and it was great when my back was playing up. I have some Secret Labs chairs at home which I use in one room to watch TV as well, took a while to get used to how firm they are but once you do it is much better for you.
