Chromebooks - separate logins, shared login, guest login or kiosk mode

Year 5 at a primary school want to get some Chromebooks but can only afford 7 devices now.

 

Would I be best seating them up with a shared account, separate accounts, some kind of guest or kiosk mode????

Do you have Google Workspace set up? Buy the devices with a Chrome Education Upgrade and then manage the users in Google Workspace. A user account for each pupil.

I was told this is not a good idea on shared Chromebook, but don't remember why. Perhaps it's not an issue for just a class of students.

Cannot think why - schools all over the world do exactly this including us. We've got hundreds of shared use Chromebooks used by 1300 staff and students in just one school with zero issues.

Was it to do with storage? We use shared Chromebooks throughout hundreds of students and don't see a problem. You could always use ephemeral mode though.

You don't need to use ephemeral mode - just force all data to save to Google Drive.

I thought that would be the case, but not too sure if any residual profile data is left on the Chromebook which could potentially take up (minimal) space when users log in.

We've not had any issues with that. I'm pretty sure they manage it themselves.

Yeah likewise, we don't use ephemeral mode and don't see any issues but just another option if you were concerned about storage I guess.
