We currently use GADS to sync users with Google Apps, and Bromcom as our MIS.

We are looking for a simple tool which will allow us to create classes based on our requirements (likely to be a single classroom per subject, per year group) and automatically enroll the relevant students within those classrooms? Does Salamander provide this flexibility (don't want individual classes per tutor or anything like that at present). Or are we better looking at the IMS spec and trying to create our own spreadsheets?

Any help, greatly appreciated!

I used a Chrome extension in March which worked well. It's not as powerful as GAM which I have now embraced but for a quick solution I was very happy with it.

I have used both Classroom Manager and ClassRight

I think Classright is free but has more limited features.

Completely forgot they had their own plugin! How flexible is it? Can I do one class per subject (for example) or does it just duplicate whatever groups you have in total? Does it play nicely if students are already provisioned on Google?

It takes the timetable you have on Bromcom and creates all the classes and syncs students and staff into the right groups and keeps them up to date daily. We have used it at one of our Secondaries this academic year and it works well. We provision straight from Bromcom to Google - but there might be an option to just sync to classroom if you have the account names in Bromcom - you would need to ask them.

I've been using Classright for a few weeks but since Friday it's not worked properly. Whenever I try and add students to a Class I get an error saying

API call to classroom.courses.students.create failed with error: Internal error encountered.

My account is super admin, I've removed and re-added the add on to make sure it's authenticated.

Any ideas?

It duplicates your existing Bromcom class groups.

You can do test syncs to see how it matches your students against those already in Google. It did 95% of ours without issues, and then I did manual matching on the others. It works very well considering the numbers involved!
