Zoom7000 Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Got a really weird one. I have a brand new Logitech C925e webcam that I've been using for 2 weeks now with no issues. Suddenly today, the microphone on the camera stopped working when I was told on a Google Meet that no one could hear me. I went and checked all the usual settings and everything seemed okay. Here's the checklist: Settings > Privacy > Microphone: Everything has access to the mic Settings > System > Sound > Input: Set to Logitech C925e Control Panel > Sound > Recording: Microphone is set to Logitech Webcam C925e (Default Device) and Windows reports it is working properly. (Even though it does not show the volume input registering as I talk). I've tried unplugging the cam, rebooting the PC and then plugging it back in again. No luck I've tried uninstalling it from Device Manager, rebooting and plugging it in again. Still no luck. I've tried updating the drivers, but there are no drivers for it on the Logitech website and it uses the generic Windows drivers. Windows Update doesn't find an updated driver. I would have put it down to hardware failure, however, when I connect the camera to my MacBook and set the audio recording input to the Logitech camera, it works absolutely fine. As far as I am aware, there have been no changes to my Windows PC at all. So, any idea what could be the issue? I've plugged in another brand webcam that I own (Nulaxy C900) and it works absolutely fine. Any ideas?
Steve21 Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Take it nothing silly like you have it on another program that's taken control of it? We've had that kind of issue before where something like Teams was left open and holds control of the mic, so a browser etc can't use it while it's open Steve

bald_pig Posted December 29, 2020 Posted December 29, 2020 Windows 10 Microphone settings will tell you if an app is using the microphone:

Nothing is currently using the microphone. Edited December 29, 2020 by Zoom7000
Zoom7000 Posted January 4, 2021 Author Posted January 4, 2021 So, as I'd been putting it off for like 5 or 6 years. I decided to format my Windows 10 PC at home with the latest 20H2 copy of Windows. Full clean format. First thing I did was connect the webcam up to my PC and microphone didn't work at all. I've just walked into school and connected the camera up to my office PC and it's working absolutely fine! 🤦♂️ I have no idea what's causing this! My format at home was a full vanilla format with a copy of Windows 10 directly download from Microsoft!
rad Posted January 4, 2021 Posted January 4, 2021 It’s not muted I take it? if you go into “sound control” “recording” mic properties and check it’s not muted there?
Andrew_C Posted January 5, 2021 Posted January 5, 2021 I had a struggle with similar. It was Skype controlling the mic despite not actually running. Needed killing in the system tray.
E-Man Posted April 8, 2021 Posted April 8, 2021 There is yet another thing that can trip you up: there's an obscure sound setting for microphone sampling frequency that will cause some, but not all, apps to input from the mic at extremely low volume. You can reach the setting this way: Control Panel...Devices & Printers...right-click on Logitech Webcam...Sound settings...recording...Microphone--Logitech...Properties... Advanced tab...change the Default Format from 16000 to 32000. (Incidentally, you can't reach *these* Sound settings by typing "Sound settings" into the Start Menu; you have to approach from the Control Panel as described above. Thanks, Microsoft!)
Protec Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 Is there a driver available on the website? Try manually updating the driver using that?
thisisthelist Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 @E-Man thank you so much for the tip about Sound settings...recording...Microphone--Logitech...Properties... Advanced tab...change the Default Format from 16000 to 32000. I had established the issue I was seeing was apps like the basic Windows Voice Recorder recording from the Logitec mic at an extremely low volume, basically inaudible. But I could not figure out what to do about it. Your solution WORKED! Thanks so much because I have a job interview tomorrow and I was worried my Logitech camera & mic weren't behaving properly. Whewwwwwwwwwwww....
chazzy2501 Posted May 19, 2021 Posted May 19, 2021 I was about to duplicate @E-Man post, I have a USB logitech headset and windows sets the sampling rate to 8000Hz so it sounds like a telephone
