There is yet another thing that can trip you up: there's an obscure sound setting for microphone sampling frequency that will cause some, but not all, apps to input from the mic at extremely low volume. You can reach the setting this way: Control Panel...Devices & Printers...right-click on Logitech Webcam...Sound settings...recording...Microphone--Logitech...Properties... Advanced tab...change the Default Format from 16000 to 32000. (Incidentally, you can't reach *these* Sound settings by typing "Sound settings" into the Start Menu; you have to approach from the Control Panel as described above. Thanks, Microsoft!)
