Jaan Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Just the press getting things wrong? it is the express! https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1372333/Gmail-hacked-Google-down-latest-update-security-data-breach-server-error-news-vn
localzuk Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Total nonsense from the Express as usual. Google have explained the issue was due to a quota internally. 1
Jawloms Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 The phrase "could be" is used a lot in that article. Pure speculation and scaremongering.....
sted Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 reading the article its full or so many qualifiers so if could etc. id go with the general rules like when the headline "is is this going to be the worst winter ever" the answer is no its just filler that looks like an article. yes its not 100% impossible but its also not likely
psydii Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Remember in the weeks before Spectre and Meltdown became public all the cloud providers scheduled reboots of their infrastructure using cover stories. Both the MS and Google outages have been given reasons that can be interpreted as "the authentication system got overloaded" Smells to me like they were rolling over all the authentication tokens because so many government orgs may have had them compromised via the recent Solarwinds Orion hack.
paulkerton Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Well there is a bit of tin-foil hat going on in here isn't there! No evidence whatsoever. The Express, TalkRadio and their "security expert" who literally knows nothing about IT and spends most of his time on Twitter posting clickbait scare stories.
mthomas08 Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 Just the press getting things wrong? it is the express! https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/1372333/Gmail-hacked-Google-down-latest-update-security-data-breach-server-error-news-vn Fantastic example of tabloid click bait headlines with no evidence. Stories like this shouldn't be allowed or forced to have "OPINION PIECE NOT FACT" in the title. I miss the days as a kid, seeing tabloid stories of "alien abductions" or "Elvis slept with me last night and I was instantly 9 months pregnant"....... You know.. the kind of stories that even The X-Files laughed at... Oh how those were ridiculed.... now stories like this are written as if they are fact with zero substance and allowed to spread this misinformation. So strange though how everything went offline. Just goes to show that not even a billion pound company has IT setup correctly - at least I tell myself this when we go down.
mikeprice Posted December 16, 2020 Posted December 16, 2020 If you read the Express then there is no need to worry about Google getting hacked anyway because the World is about to end normally of course, the definition of 'about' is rather long - often a 1% probability that x will happen in the next 10,000 years - and the calculation of the percentage and length of time turns out to be based on wild extrapolation of very little data Sometime I read these dumb articles because finding the facts is an interesting challenge!
