Hwb MS Teams performance Vs vanilla/ direct Microsoft O365 Teams

We have an MS Office 365 tenancy, no local servers for it. Just AD.

 

Teams via Hwb seems a lot slower. Slower to log in, slower to use generally. Our local support say it's a local problem but staff and pupils report that it's bad in their homes.

Hwb can take 10x the time it takes O365 Teams to load.. that's primary school Hwb users vs their older siblings at High School.

Not surprising. One of the many reasons we’re holding off on migration or consolidation to Hwb!

I don’t know anything about HWB or how they’re set up, but you’d think that once you’re in Teams, performance would be the same as it would be for someone who’s using their own tenant.

 

Authentication could conceivably be slower if they’re using their own ADFS farm to authenticate users instead of Microsoft’s own systems.

As Hwb’s tenancy was part of a deal negotiated with WG, MS may well have constricted the headroom it has in Azure.

All of the schools in hwb are on the same tenancy. Which might have something to do with it. I find it allow too.

It's not just teams, literally, everything in HWB is slower than in non-HWB.

 

Office 365 is slower, Google is slower, the admin interface is slower. Not just a tiny but slower either, noticeably slower.

 

The original 2014 HWB was always dog slow. It seems lessons have not been learned.

This kinds of reminds me of some English LAs, with a one size fits all approach. It was powered using Groupcall IdaaS and this also allowed delegation of some functions, but no where near as good or as fast as a native O365 tenancy.

 

Was it slow - yes extremely and the interface extremely clunky.

Hwb is literally a giant Tennant with a modified version of Salamader for every school. They would be better off transforming it into a resource system for schools to support in accessing features or something.

If I was in a position whereby a school is encouraged, I'd seriously consider/ask what is the value add being part of the same tenancy? How will it impact the learning in the classroom day to day?

 

Schools will be bundled together which will never have anything to do with each other - probably because of distance and catchment areas.

 

And in the context of everything online, doing everything together isn't always a good thing. Imagine the tenancy was hijacked in some capacity - it'd affect thousands of pupils and staff.
