error capturing win10 20H2

I create my image in hyper v and I've successfully captured it in the past (last capture was of windows 1909). I usually just apply the updates then capture it.

I use sccm to capture and deploy.

I have ran the usual powershell scripts to remove windows store apps.

 

Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

 

I then mount my capture.iso and start the capture. It runs through the sysprep and the restarts the VM. It then starts up with the black screen and a grey progress bar at the bottom that says loading files... The progress bar loads across the bottom a couple of times and then the VM shuts down. If I start it up again the progress bar loads across a couple of times again and shuts down again.

 

Have I forgotten to do something or is their a new step to capturing the image that I'm missing?

Bulk-removing packages like that is how you break Windows 10.

Use Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage instead, on a very minimal number of packages.

If it can't be un-provisioned, it shouldn't be removed; use AppLocker for those apps.

Your first query returns all Microsoft apps (the publisher ID relates to MS). If you've then removed everything that brings up, you will almost certainly brick the OS when it syspreps.

 

You shouldn't need to go at it that hard! Just remove the individual apps you don't want - leave anything like Calculator etc and especially leave the Store app!

I would normally use

Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Out-GridView –PassThru | Remove-AppxPackage

and

Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Out-GridView –PassThru | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

I usually select the whole list and then unselect calculator, store and camera.

 

I used

Get-AppxPackage -AllUser | Where PublisherId -eq 8wekyb3d8bbwe | Format-List -Property PackageFullName,PackageUserInformation

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers | Remove-AppxPackage

 

as a result of finding these command on another website after trying to find a solution as to why the capture was failing even when using the original powershell commands

 

I maanged to mount a windows 10 installation ISO to the broken image so i could could then get to cmd. Looking at the setuperr.log file in C:\Windows\System32\Sysprep\Panther it looked like smartglass and snip & sketch are causing the fail but they should be being removed with the powershell command.

Still scratching my head with this.
