j_mcg Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 Hello all, I am starting to look at filtering again, we want more granular options and reporting then what we are getting with our ISP provided filtering, so we are looking at going to filtering our end to have more management over it. I have used Smoothwall and Lightspeed in the past and they had the functions/feature we liked but our ISP has moved away from these, is there any other providers that you would recommend I take a look at? It will need to work on BYOD devices as well as school owned Chromebooks/Laptops and Macs. Thanks in advance Jason
ITGURU Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 We use Censornet. Works for both domain joined and BYOD captive portal. Captive portal uses AD credentials so can granularly give access to existing staff/pupils.
Sibrows Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 We have major issues getting the Censornet captive portal to show on devices so are looking to move away from them in the new year.

Jcx500 Posted November 6, 2020 Posted November 6, 2020 (edited) I know a lot of schools are going to Securly and Senso, We are using on prem Smoothwall at the moment and we are sticking with that for now. Edit: Grammer Edited November 6, 2020 by Jcx500
j_mcg Posted November 6, 2020 Author Posted November 6, 2020 Thank you all, we have a demo booked for Securly to do classroom management. I might ask how this could be used with BYOD.

Thanks in advance Jason Hi there, It's worth looking at Sophos XG, it offers excellent filtering capability combined with next gen firewall. I'd be happy to arrange a demo and/or quote anytime, let me know if interested, cheers

Thanks in advance Jason Hi @j_mcg we look after a couple of thousand schools Internet, content filtering and security. Netsweeper is our filtering provider of choice we use in our cloud hosted infrastructure so no need for numerous onsite boxes. You have full access to change things yourself if you wish or you can take a fully managed service. You can have filtering and reporting via multiple authentication sources which can be done on a group or user as well as an IP, IP range or VLAN. We also fully support BYOD and offer full captive portal integration as well as radius. On top of that we also use Fortinet firewalls which we can also give you full control off. The only device you need onsite is one of our routers, everything is in the cloud. Happy to give you a quote demo. Dave
Securly_Marc Posted November 9, 2020 Posted November 9, 2020 Hi There, Looking forward to showing you our Classroom management on your demo and we'll also cover web filtering and safeguarding for your devices too! Thanks, Marc
