Hi

I've been asked to look into a couple of hardware recommendations to suggest to parents for devices to buy for home. Maybe a couple of laptops and tablets. Has anyone got hardware they currently suggest to parents? More so now in current climate. Obviously price is an issue

Thanks in advance

we don't recommend a specific make and model for several reasons but we do publish a recommended spec

While we cannot recommend any specific IT equipment, we do have a quick checklist for you to use

when purchasing a laptop for school use. At a minimum you should be looking for:

 i3 or Ryzen 3 processor

 8GB or more of RAM

 250GB SSD disk

 14 inch full 1920 x 1080

 Separate full sized mouse

 Good quality laptop bag or sleeve

Never recommend specific make or model. Give specifications only.

Plus, if you recommend a specific model, they'll think you're offering tech support on it for free as you vouched for it in the first place--"I'm having problems with that laptop you told me to get..."

Stock right now is an ever-changing nightmare too, so recommending a spec is definitely the way to go

I've heard story at my first school where an outside person had come in and recommended specific make/model. Lets just say it went pear shaped. Whilst I'd have no issue recommending hardware to a relative or friend you have to bear in mind that if anything goes wrong you and the organisation can and prob will be blamed, it is just not worth it.

As above, only recommend spec.

I'm currently putting something together as we are suggesting parents buy our Y7&8s a Chromebook for Christmas, I've written a spec guild and then linked 3 models as examples but made sure I've added these are not necessarily recommended models or suppliers.
