We had an issue with Sims stopping responding earlier today. A reboot of the DB server has brought things back online, but it is running extremely slowly (Took ages for the server to come back online).

I'm currently running resource manager on the server and getting te following:-

CPU ~ 34% usage

Disk 9Mb/sec

Network 10Kbps

Memory 28% physical used / 0 hard faults

There is nothing obviously wrong, and nothing in the event log so not sure where to look for the slowdown

Can anyone help?

is it virtual ? if so are any other guests running slow ?

Yes it is virtual, and everything else appears to be running fine

RAID status either on that server or the host if it's virtual?

Raid status is okay on the host cluster - although I'm migrating the storage to different drives in case of disk issues

Is the SQL max server memory enough for the total size of all the DBs it's running?

Yes max server memory is fine. It seems to be running fine this morning, so no idea what the issue was

Is the disk storage behind this VM an iSCSI SAN? We had a similar issue with a server a few months back - when I looked into it, one of the round robin/redundant links had somehow set itself to 100mb on the adapter properties in ESXi. I manually reset this back to 1GB and all was well! Worth a look?
