LeMarchand Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 Just starting a foray into Google Classroom. Works great on school-owned/managed devices, but on personal devices most users are told that You do not have permission to access classroom, contact your domain admin. They are signing in with their school email. Though someone with a newer Samsung was fine. Does anyone have any insight on this? Going to see if I can find an older device at home to test with. There is a workaround, but not one I'd expect the kids to be able to do at home (or the parents to be happy allowing the school the sort of access it needs to devices).

When I was at a Google School, this was normally caused by the kids being logged in to their personal accounts, they need to switch to their school account in the top-right settings first. 1
LeMarchand Posted September 28, 2020 Author Posted September 28, 2020 Thanks, I was wondering if it was something like that, but no device to test on to hand.
TwistedHelixis Posted September 28, 2020 Posted September 28, 2020 I was testing classroom today and got that message. Odd thing is that I closed the app an re opened the it and got in without the error.
Sonic007 Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Fuming nightmare this is! The main problem we have is parents are already signed in so it defaults to their gmail/google accounts and then they wonder what the hell is going on as they cant see anything and why it keeps reverting back.

We seem to get a message when someone is already signed in (on Chrome), 'please contact your administrator' and it blocks them from signing in. We are only in the early testing phase but this seems to be how ours reacts when someone is already logged in using a personal acc.
hardtailstar Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 Currently we have our own school Google and a Academy Google accounts. We set up different profiles for Chrome and have no issues unless the teacher clicks on the wrong one! You could set out instructions on how to do that?
paulkerton Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 On desktop, people need to get out of the habit of having multiple users signed in on the same browser, and need to use the "Add People" profiles function to keep their accounts completely separate. https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2364824?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en 1
southhamster Posted September 30, 2020 Posted September 30, 2020 We tell them to use different browser eg Firefox and that helped in lots of cases. Or ensure they sign out of their personal Gmail account in chrome.
