Teams Meeting Nightmares

Hi all,

 

So here goes, we've pushed our staff down the Teams route like most, since the return they're trying to run all staff meetings through them but it's just not seemed to work well and I'm at the end of tether as we've had problem after problem. The icing on the cake with it all is for some unknown reason small groups of staff are joining, for example a whole staff briefing and ending up in a separate meeting with a small random group of staff.

 

Someone please tell me I'm not the only person dealing with this kind of thing, I'm pretty sure it's some mad user error rather than Teams but just needed to clarify as couldn't find any similar examples on any MS forum.

 

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Sounds more like user error as you mention.

 

Could be something silly like they're joining a meeting for a previous chat/group rather than the current one? Can you check with one of them to show you how they joined the meeting, would quickly rule out if it's that

Our INSET day was staff in Covid bubbles, with someone from SLT logged into Teams in rooms with a computer. Then they were broadcast the same meeting to them. They used the Office 365 features we already had. I was impressed to be honest. Even though they tried to play a video through Teams. Bandwidth people! I think they did it via meetings/scheduled Teams things.

 

Will keep an eye out for any issues though.

 

Make sure they're on a decent PC connected to Ethernet not wireless too.

On the whole it’s worked very well, we had lots of issues last term when staff ended up creating multiple meetings and not deleting old ones, pupils would end up spread across them, they were pretty much all user error. Our staff meetings generally went without a hitch once staff were used to it, now we’ve gone back to normal meetings though

 

We actually used it tonight with around 120 pupils/parents connected to hear a live talk from an external speaker, I stuck around to mute anyone that dared to unmute themselves half way through...

We’ve been using Teams Live Events through-out lockdown for running our usual marketing events, open days, whole staff meetings, society guest speakers etc, has worked really well. We did HOD’s the other day as a live event with 20 people spread out over 15 locations, 4 setup as presenters and used q&a to relay questions back. I was running it on a host laptop switching camera views. Works surprisingly well

Times by number of users etc Obviously if it's a live event going externally it's dramatically decreased as it's only your connection to MS. So 2 presenters, and 500 viewers like for an open evening is still only 2 people using bandwidth

We had the same happen on our first all staff meeting, it was user error.

The meeting was shared in two locations and somehow staff went to both.

It was the very first meeting we had and was a bit stressful for a few minutes as to understand what they had done!, as the jury was still out for staff for which to use between Teams or Zoom at the time!.
