ricki Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 Hi try going into the update history and find the kb's that have failed then download them from the windows catalogue to the local hard drive then install them from there. Richard 1
SiDr0id Posted August 18, 2020 Author Posted August 18, 2020 Cheers but I've already looked at this and have no failed updates.
free780 Posted August 18, 2020 Posted August 18, 2020 You can try stopping the WUAUSERV service rename c:\windows\Software distribution. Start the service and check for updates. 1
Jcx500 Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Are you using a proxy ? If so use this command in cmd to import the proxy so win update can see it , this fixed it for us Netsh winhttp import proxy source =ie Then restart the update service
notsogenius Posted August 19, 2020 Posted August 19, 2020 Are you using WSUS and is it working properly? I've seen this or similar and had to restart the application pool for WSUS. Although that would stop anything updating.
Reverend_Dan Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 We used to get this in Windows 7 if WMI was having issues which had a knock on effect. Found this script which admittedly is more of a lump hammer but it fixed it after a restart. Should work ok for Windows 10. Or you could just use the last bit to kill and restart WSUS Echo Rebuilding WMI... dubsdj Posted August 24, 2020 Posted August 24, 2020 (edited) Normally when this happens to me I rename the download folder in software distribution to download.old and then manually download the latest cumulative update from the catalogue and install it manually. If you are having issues renaming the download folder and unable to stop the windows update service then temporarily set the windows update service to disabled and reboot the server. Once the server has rebooted, try renaming the download folder in the software distro folder and then enable the windows update service and set it to automatic and start it. Once that is all done, run the cumulative update manually. It will take ages BTW. If you try to stop the windows update service and it hangs and attempt a reboot you will be stuck on a screen "getting windows ready" for over 20 minutes. Edited August 24, 2020 by dubsdj
Fazza Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Try logging on with a different account than the one originally used to do the updates as this has sometimes fixed Windows Updates not working for me.
