batch file help

found this in a student's area -

SET PATH=%PATH%;C:\localcai\bin;C:\localcai\vdi

haven't a clue if it's likely to cause any problems. can anyone help?

All it does is add c:\localcai\bin and c:\localcai\vdo to the PATH environment variable, which means that when executing something that is in one of those folders, you don't have to type the full path.

 

For example:

c:\localcai\bin\program.exe

 

Normally you'd have to specify the full path to run that exe. But if the folder is in %PATH%, then you just have to run 'program.exe'.

 

On it's own, it doesn't do much. But it may mean he has access to something he shouldn't.

 

A quick Google search for localcai shows the folder (and batch file) belong to part of Success Maker.

thanks, all. one of my (many) weak spots. not so much an achilles heel as an achilles occiput, neck, upper torso, lower torso etc..

im sure the localcai folder is part of success maker. There is nothing in there of any use to a student, that i am aware of.

Yeah, Cai is something to do with RM "Stressmaker", I still had 2 mapped drives to Stressmaker when I started, no longer use it, so the servers binned and the maps have now gone.

I wish i could get rid of "Stressmaker" so easily. All our Learning support staff use it heavily with the kids.

Its getting to the stage where im thinking of not fixing it again and hope no one notices.

I think we ditched it after 3 years of trying back in the 90s with it, many new servers, workstations, upgrades etc, and all it did was cause Stress. Any member of staff or SMT now when you mention RM Sucessmaker, the gasp and shudder and then if you say anything like RM is nice for.... they go hide in offices and lock doors!

Hmmm SucksAssMaker also nicks the file association for Windows Script WSF files.

Thats a new name for it, I will have to use it next time we find some nasty CDs from them or get a letter encouraging us to use it again
