Turn Off MS Teams for Summer...

Hi All,

 

Does anyone else do this? Just had it mentioned to me in a meeting and thinking about whether it has any gravity.

I think the main concern is using it as a social platform over the summer, but surely email could be this too...

 

Interested in any other opinions!

You could script the removal of Teams licenses from all pupils. The only effect I can think of is that they may lose all membership of teams, so you will have add them all in again next term. The only consequence I am not sure of is if any assignments will be lost.

 

In theory sounds a good idea, though you could argue it is a safe place for them to chat, rather than the myriad of cesspits out there. You are right though, do you disable email, so why Teams.

Thanks for the prompt response. I didn't think about the assignments, that is a great point to make.

 

I think perhaps creating a new Teams Policy blocking private chats and calls could be the simplest method... I completely agree that it is likely the safest environment for them, compared with some harsh, unmoderated public social media platforms. Perhaps we should use this idea and release/use Yammer. As yet we have not used Yammer at all.

How about telling the Owners to set the Channel to only accept posts from Owner? If they don't then that's their responsibility as they'd be asked to do and why they need to do it. We are new to Teams so don't have the knowledge yet on what's good to do, and what's not good.

 

edit: obviously they'd have to do that for each team, so not a small job, but not unsurmountable.

You could just disable the student accounts in AD, which will block all O365 signing in.

 

That would be equally heavy handed and problematic, but it'd work.

This could be a good option as you could set it to allow replies to posts, so if a teacher posted something the pupils could still reply. Only downside is they could jump on an old comment and have massive conversations.

Would just muting all the students have the desired effect? That would stop them posting in the team. I guess it depends how many teams they are in as to how long this would take to manage?
