Teams / Sharepoint - Collaborating Across Domains

Hi all,

 

I have recently been appointed as IT Manager for a multi-academy trust and one of my first projects is to setup a shared resource platform which can be used by classroom teachers in all schools. Teams seems like the ideal fit for this as all currently have and use Microsoft tenancies.

 

I wondered if anyone could help with the best way to go about this. Info on systems so far:ll sites currently have their own tenancy. At some point I imagine I will look into bringing them into a central AD however I anticipate this will be a longer scale project with potential for disruption (whilst mailboxes and domains are being transferred) so not something I am looking to do at present.

 

Am I right in thinking my options are:

 

• Gather emails from all primaries and invite all users to Azure AD at the central site. This makes sense to me but can't see a way during the csv import process to add to a group which I could then add within Teams / Sharepoint
  
• Add directly via email onto the team. This will do the same as the above but add them straight onto the team / sharepoint resources they need. My concern is they still are not placed in a group so would have similar issues should we want to share resources in the future.
  

 

How have others achieved this? Any and all suggestions welcome.

We have been doing something very similar as migrating into a central tenant is something on our list, but we wanted everyone working and smooth as possible during covid.

 

Invite all school users into the tenant where you want to host the central site, you can do this via powershell, csv bulk invite - I can send template script over for you.

 

Teams exactly the same, create the team on the central tenant, then I have another script where you get the Group Object ID from Azure and bulk import all your guests.

 

Make sure you have guest/external access enabled in Teams admin center.

No - and the crap thing at the moment is you can't make guests owners of Teams groups.

Hmm. I am no expert in large tenants, but the guest arrangement ahead of a migration/merger strikes me as potentially the source of real headaches later. Unless in the migration a new UPN/email address and immutableId were created for the target user...
