Edu-IT Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I have two monitors identical monitors. One is connected by DisplayPort and the other is HDMI. The HDMI seems washed out compared to the DP. Is this normal? If not, any pointers on how to fix? I've tried adjusting some settings in the Intel Control Panel.

timbo343 Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 In what way are they washed out? You will find that no one monitor has the same colour temps or colour settings as the other so you may have to adjust the colour settings on the monitor.

For example, the blue wallpaper is brighter against the blue wallpaper on the HDMI.

Rob_D Posted June 12, 2020 Posted June 12, 2020 I've often found different display outputs give different colour balances and just put it down to better outputs supporting better colour reproduction (in my case it was DVI and DP). Also the Dell Ultrasharps only support SRGB via the display-port (at least the older ones I've used did). It could be something like that. Best option for fixing it is probably just to mess with the colour balance either in the graphics control or on the monitor. If you haven't already, double check that both the monitors have the same colour settings and one isn't set to cinema or echo mode or something.
Ditto Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Not sure if you've got to the bottom of this, but were the monitors bought at the same time. I know some Dell's of the same model can end up with slightly different panels over time and sometimes the picture quality varies a fair bit. Not sure how you'd check - serial numbers on the back might be a clue. Perhaps there is software that'll give you low level spec? i doubt you'll want to open the monitor up to find out!
DrBeaker Posted June 13, 2020 Posted June 13, 2020 Yeah until I got 2x 22" HD screens in my last place with VGA and DVI- I'd honestly never really noticed the difference until then. If 30+ year old technology is only now starting to show it's age, I'm happy with that.
