yac2016 Posted May 30, 2020 Posted May 30, 2020 Directly via Promethean, but Smart are the same. Best bet is if you want to use Promethean or Smart software is to buy there panels, price wise there is not much difference.
DavR Posted June 2, 2020 Author Posted June 2, 2020 Just confirmed today, quoted £500 per screen, a deal was offered but still not at a sane price. I don't think we'll be going down that road then! Octopus has been recommended at £60 per screen, and that's device independent, might be worth looking at....

I just wish it wasn't login based, that creates an extra layer of faff in management terms (yes I know, you can access your files from anywhere, buy sheesh, another online service!).
yac2016 Posted June 2, 2020 Posted June 2, 2020 If you have setup SSO on either GSuite of M365 the user would not need to sign in, they would click on the MS or Google link and after that should just sign in automatically. Just tested it and it works well. 1

After googling around can I confirm there is no "free" or "personal" version of ActivInspire to use with third party screens? Teachers are insistent they have ton of resources built over the years and want to continue creating more resources.

There's not a "free" version that can be used school-wide even as the license is for "you" - i.e. for a single device used by the individual person installing and using it, going by their terms: 4.1 Single-User License: The License that is granted under this EULA is a Single-User Licensewhich permits the Software to be installed for use by You in accordance with the terms of thisEULA on a single computer. The Software will not be used on or transferred to another computerexcept that the Software may be transferred to an alternate computer if the original computer isnot working or is replaced. You will not sub-license, lend, lease, rent or transfer or otherwise makethe Software available to any third party without the prior written consent of Promethean. 4.2 Restrictions of Use with Third-Party Interactive Display Devices: Unless otherwise agreed inwriting by Promethean, the Software is only permitted to be operated with PrometheanEquipment or the Promethean Certified Equipment. Plus Promethean screens are competitive with others now.
paulkerton Posted July 10, 2020 Posted July 10, 2020 I remember the days when BECTA told Promethean and Smartboard that they had to create an open interoperable standard so that their presentations could be transferred between their software and any other competitors software simply. Promethean and Smartboard just decided to sit on that, and BECTA were gone before they were. Classflow is the free web based solution, but you've also got Smart who have their own whiteboard, and Jamboard for those who are using G Suite.

Thought this would be the case. We've gone for ViewSonic Touhcscreen TVs and their software will open promethean flipcharts (been told) but it's the fact teachers wanting to continue using Inspire. Got training booked with VeiwSonic, hopefully they'll show the alternative to be just as good etc.

By that logic, you'd be able to say Apple are being anti-competitive because they don't let MacOS get used on non-Mac hardware. Promethean have nowhere near a monopoly.

It's different from Apple because Apple don't sell their operating system separately from the device. Here the two product are separate from each other and the sale of one (software) influences the market for the other (hardware). I remember Microsoft had similar trouble when they tried to leverage their operating system dominance on the browser market and they were told it wasn't allowed. Anyway from the comments it doesn't look likely. It was just a thought to try and get a better deal for schools, save some money, improve the world etc

We're getting 65inch Nickels in a few weeks, actually came in cheaper than our usual brand this time around.
