New intake IT welcome pack?

I was wondering if this might be any help to our new intake, maybe sending out to parents before their child starts in september.

 

Does anyone do this or not?

In normal times we send a welcome letter around now, with what we offer and what is expected from them It wise. then again in August. Seems to help with software they get though the school.

My previous school we had the Welcome Pack online with info and any forms were completed via a Google Form rather than loads of sheets of paper.

 

I would create a page on your website and maybe offer Summer Homework there too. We did for Y11-Y12 students.

 

If you are referring to just ICT, I wouldn’t bother, they will loose it and it will over complicate things at the start of term.

Good Idea.

 

I had similar to do some videos for the system etc but it's way way down the list I'm afraid. E.g. with ours as we're upgrading from 8.1 to Windows 10 and from Office 2013 to 2016 it would be cause double the work for me and only me so it's at the bottom of the list.

 

Although we've had some issues come up from working at home I'd told them they need to build into next years induction with students.

Just to reply to this one, I think there are 2 sides. 1) general comms to parents. 2) specific account details.

 

1) From a generalised perspective, one thing we have done for our new intake is create a page on our website with a timeline for a "virtual welcome" to our school (page here: Pudsey Grangefield School | - Year 6 Transition).

2) I've made so many guides over this period regarding working from home so I will shortly be amalgamating these into a form of a new starter guide for students. Luckily we already have all of our pre-admissions email addresses in our parent communications system so when this guide is done it will be sent out via the app to all pre-admissions parents. We just need to consider a way to send their account details home.
