Governor issue with Gmail on an iPhone, specifically with 'All inboxes'

Hi, I have had the following messages from a Governor.

 

Any chance we could relax the need for the school emails to be excluded from "All Inboxes" on people's phones? Governors (and clerks!) often miss messages because they have to check the school account separately.

 

I get a lot of school emails & really need to have a quick look at the content to check whether it's something I need to deal with - so a simple notification of the number of messages doesn't really help. The "all inboxes" feature allows a quick scan.

 

So I think the 'all inboxes' is in their iPhone mail app and they are needing to open the gmail app for school emails, but they want everything in one place.

 

Now the reason for needing the Gmail app is because a few years ago we disabled POP & IMAP and asked anyone with an iPhone to install the Gmail app, this was due to security concerns.

 

Any advice from another school that uses G Suite with iPhone's would be really handy, as I don't have an iPhone, so can't even test things.

Also are there still security concerns in regards to POP & IMAP?

As an iphone user. Tell him to switch to the Gmail app. It has an all inboxes feature too... and it’s much better than the ios email app.

 

There’s no reason to miss anything if you have two email apps though . Notifications just need to be on for both!

 

As far as I was aware, thevios app doesn’t require pop and imap these days anyway.

we disabled pop and imap ages ago too, people are just told to use the gmail app or not have emails on their phone

I wish the GMail app on Android would open at all mailboxes! I use Outlook as Gmail defaults to the Primary Inbox: https://support.google.com/mail/thread/13203981?hl=en .

Only if you don't close the app, as far as I can tell. Maybe the behaviour differs in some iterations, but mine is "pure" Android. Admittedly, judging by the amount of open apps whenever I look at someone else's phone, very few people seem to close apps.

I think you are right in that "All inboxes" relates to the iPhone mail app.

 

I am using LGFL StaffMail as well as G Suite but most of my users login using the browser. I do have a few which insist on seeing everything in one place so I have put on an auto forward from their Gmail account over to the LGFL account. You could do something similar over to their personal email address but this really defeats the object of using the Gmail App and all the security reasons for using it. They would also still need to open the Gmail app to reply back if they wanted it to show as going from the school email address otherwise it wouldn't look very professional.

 

I am also pushing for them to use a school email address.

 

I recall that if they used the iPhone mail client that they would not be able to see any of the sub folders they created e.g, under the inbox or anywhere else in the mailbox apart from the default Inbox, drafts, outbox etc
