Smart Notebook Alternatives

Hi;

 

I'm sure I have asked this before somewhere but I need to ask again.

 

We have been running Smart Notebook version 11 for a number of years. We have just upgraded to Windows 10 and noticed that when opening Smart Notebook it was a trial of v19. On speaking to our IT Support Provider it would appear that they have deployed v19 as support for v11 is about to cease, or it will cease to work with Windows 10.

 

Anyway I have tried to warn people that there will come a time when we need to upgrade (at a massive cost) or seek an alternative - I can hear the screams now!!!

 

I did find this thread here regarding Windows 10 and Notebook 11, however have things changed?

 

Anyway - what are our alternatives?

 

We are signed up to Office 365 and will shortly be looking at using Teams for Staff and maybe for pupils?

SMART have 19.1 basic which is free but it comes with less features, and users need to login.

I've just spent the last day hunting through various threads and posting in forums looking for a solution.

Google has been working out.

Firstly, separate the basic interface of SMART notebook on a touchboard.

In that space there are many alternatives. Openboard I quite like, likewise googles Jamboard, Microsoft Whiteboard.

All provide decent functionality.

 

If what you are after though is the pretties that Notebook provides, the option I'm now going down is Prowise presenter10.

Its cloud based, which brings with it several advantages. The main one is its device agnostic.

Free version works fine.

Paid version ($55aud) looks good and I think allows sharing across faculties, as well as some student device integrations.

It also opens/converts Notebook files.

+1 for Prowise 10. Its not quite as feature rich as SMART (so I keep being told by a few members of staff) but it allows cross platform use, Import of SMART notebook files and there is an admin portal so you can add users and create shared areas. There is also a community on there that does seem to make a few useful things. my.prowise.com is worth a look, plus once you have created logins, you can use Google Sign in which is always a bonus. Their boards are also pretty cheap and come with 5 years warranty.
