Chrome Education Upgrade price increase delayed to January 2021

- Price increase postponed due to COVID-19

 

Google previously announced that the price increase of Chrome Management Licenses would change from March 9th 2020.

 

However, given the unique circumstance of COVID-19, many educational institutions have been facing increased pressure.

 

Google for Education has, therefore, decided to delay the price increase until January 12th 2021.

 

I haven't seen promotional material from Google as yet, but the company sharing this news is where I buy all my licenses from and are a Google Premier Partner, so it's great news nonetheless to support schools who might be purchasing more ChromeOS devices in order to prepare for distance learning scenarios.

Hello Administrator,

 

The spread of COVID-19 means that many educational institutions are facing closures. We have heard from many of you and understand this is a difficult time. Given the unique circumstances, we have decided to delay our previously announced increase to the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of the Chrome Education Upgrade and the non-profit version until January 12, 2021. This price increase was originally planned for Monday, March 9, 2020.

 

The nature of the COVID-19 virus means we are all dealing with a fluid situation that changes daily. We strove to make a decision in the best interests of our users. Our resellers were notified about this change on Friday, March 6, 2020, and are doing all they can to adjust to the delay. If you purchased Chrome Education Upgrade licenses in anticipation of the price increase, please note these licenses are perpetual and do not expire. They will be available when you are ready to deploy new Chromebooks.

 

What does this mean long term?

 

As a reminder on why the price increase was originally planned, we updated the Chrome OS Automatic Update Expiration (AUE) policy in November 2019. This update extended auto-updates on many devices currently for sale as well as future devices, providing many devices an additional year or more before they reach AUE.

 

In line with the additional value these investments bring to customers, we will continue with the previously announced increase to the MSRP of the Chrome Education Upgrade and the non-profit version, from $30USD to $38USD, globally effective January 12, 2021.

 

Please note that the purchase price for the Chrome Education Upgrade and non-profit version will continue to be set by the reseller it is purchased from.
