Hi our kyocera printers are printing double but on one sided, rendering the printouts useless.

see image below...

Here is our setup.

  • Printers are on a print server windows 2016
  • Users print to a virtual printer (follow me printing via PaperCut)
  • Printer models: Kyocera TASKalfa 8052ci & TASKalfa 8052ci
  • Driver: KX Driver v7.4.0830 (PCL 5c)
  • All printers use the same Driver PCL 5c (NOTE this was swapped as it also happened on PCL 6)
  • Users are Windows 10 Ent

This only effects if the user select double sided which is standard practise here. for example a 4 page document will print on 1 page double sided with double layered (printer over each over)

Any ideas?

Many Thanks

Lewis

Usually restarting them kicks them back into life

Strange if it is happening to all your printers?

You haven't mentioned if this has only just started happening or not?

Any other changes to the server or updates to the drivers?

Is it a new Papercut install (not familiar with Papercut so I'm not sure if it has any applicable settings)?

Are they new MFDs?

Dig through all the printer settings on the GUI printers web page and find out what the duplex settings are.

Also, check through any duplex settings in the printer preferences of the driver properties on the server.

All ours are set to be 'off' so I suppose it is chosen at time of printing if anyone wants to do it (and not 'on' by default as yours appears to be).

Hi,

They are MFD, this seems to have happened after a windows update.

Our Drivers are set to print double sided as default, this is set on the server drivers. which normally works fine.

I have not checked the GUI so will take a look there.

You should only need to make changes to the Follow Me queue, not the actual output queues; the print job will have already been formatted by then. I would recommend PCL-XL over PCL5c but just check in the Device Settings for the properties of your Follow Me queue that it is PCL-XL (PDL button) and ensure that "GDI compatible" is turned off and also "Smart duplex printing" is off. If you do make changes then I'd also recommend removing the queue from a client and reinstalling it to ensure the settings are applied and then print your tests. Also on the Sharing ensure that Render print jobs on client computers is enabled.
