fiza Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 @Arthur - I had seen that Audio only setting but as you say it seems pointless when you can switch it on again and the fact it only applies to PCs/Macs.
Zoom7000 Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 At the moment, in the Admin Console, there isn't a split option for Google Meet and Classic Hangouts. If you want your users to be able to attend a Meet, then you have to switch on Google Hangouts. Doing this however, will switch on the capability for the students to use Classic Hangouts too as there isn't currently anyway to split the 2 settings.

This is why I've recommended Live Stream only for now. Students can still attend a Meet Live Stream, even if all the Hangouts options are switched off.

They don't want students on video but want the teacher on video with students able to interact and ask questions.
paulkerton Posted April 9, 2020 Posted April 9, 2020 Not directly on the stream, but they could open a Google Form or Google Slides Q&A for asking questions. 1
ITGuyNW Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 So now that Meet and Hangout have two different settings, can hangouts be disabled? Would that affect the stream in Classroom?
caffrey Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 There's another too.. They should roll everything together
jthompson Posted June 24, 2020 Posted June 24, 2020 (edited) So now that Meet and Hangout have two different settings, can hangouts be disabled? Would that affect the stream in Classroom? When I try turning off "Google Hangouts" for our students, they stop seeing the Meet link in Classroom, so I've left it on for now and will test it again in a couple of weeks of so. I don't believe it affects anything else in Classroom, because we always had Hangouts disabled for our students pre-COVID anyway, without seeing any issues. I haven't tested whether or not having "Google Hangouts" disabled prevents the use of the chat panel in Meet. I suspect it won't affect it. Messages sent in the chat panel aren't retained in Google Vault, which leads me to think that the chat panel operates entirely separately from Hangouts. Edit: we've had "Hangouts Chat" (the new one) disabled for our students throughout, without it breaking anything in Classroom or Meet. Edited June 24, 2020 by jthompson 1
