Apple School Manager - School Name Change

Recommended Posts

We originally setup Apple School Manager and Mosyle MDM a few years ago. Since then our school name has changed and I am just getting around to trying to update ASM. It does not appear possible for me to edit the existing Location/Organisation ID, does anyone know if I can just create a new Location in ASM and delete the old one without having to reenroll all our devices or do I need to contact Apple to see if they can edit the school name without affecting the MDM link?

How did you get on with this? I need to change the name of our top level now as we have just been merged with another Government department, was just wondering if you had any luck?

Thanks,

Karl

I just ended leaving it as it was as it didn't affect the actual usage of the system. I cannot remember if I contacted Apple and they said it wasn't possible or if I just didn't bother asking, I had a quick look through my emails but couldn't find anything so expect it was the latter.

Thanks for the fast response

I might have to go with the leaving it option. We're treading dangerous ground with Apple here, as ASM technically isn't allowed in our area (offshore dependency), so there is always the possibility they could cut us off completely

You cannot change the initial top level school name in ASM, pretty bad really...

You can change sub schools via SIS uploads etc...

I found this rather annoying when I setup ASM as my school name and then used the same name in my SIS csv uploads thinking all the data would upload into it.

No, what I ended up with was 2 schools with the exact same name, I managed manually (the initial domain) and 1 managed by the SIS upload process.

I finally lost my patience with it when it came to buying apps in ASM and then assigning them to the SIS school which linked into my MDM as they were both called the same so it was a trial and error when came to assigning them.

They should issue a warning about this in the documentation or fix it so you can't have 2 schools in ASM named the same.

I abbreviated my SIS upload school name in the end to get round this.

Its also worth noting that renaming your intstitute in Apple School Manager does not rename the App Purchase Server Token which is rather F'ing annoying so although your institute name is changed when you go to assign apps in ASM they will need to be assigned to your old school name pre the name change :censored: Edited by Tefters

The problem I have is that the email account and phone number associated with our Apple School Manager account we no longer have access to so I can't sign in to it.

I tried to create a new School manager account but was denied because we already have one!

You need to call apple enterprise tech support which will take you through to America and then they will be able to pass your through the someone UK based in order to assist, last person I spoke to was Ireland.

It's made explicit in the instructions when you set up ASM to create 2 x Admin accounts.......
