OneDrive and user profile settings

We made the change over to onedrive from home network shares last year and i completely removed any sort of profile path directory from AD entries

 

An issue I am having is I cannot seem to get users settings to roam, such as quick access pins, bookmarks for chrome, recent files, frequent folders etc

 

Can anyone offer some advice on how to get these settings to stick with the user when they roam?

For Chrome: Link G Suite to Azure Ad for authentication, then users can sync those settings settings.

 

Some other windows settings will roam with Enterprise State Roaming. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/active-directory/devices/enterprise-state-roaming-faqs TBH I'm never completely sure how well this works on shared devices.

 

For everything else use UE-V (TBH we don't bother with this and everyone seems happy enough)

ESR you need a premium license so is out of the question - UE-V I have setup and in place following a guide seems to be working with settings being saved to my network share location per user. I don’t think they are applying though as I haven’t had time to properly test yet

 

However, one particular teacher still complaining it’s not saving their bookmarks and taskbar layout - she’s literally in tears about it and claiming it’s causing her anxiety, everyone else doesn’t seem to bother it’s just this one teacher I’m trying to get it working for with the hope that all this time and effort spent will benefit others that are possibly being silent about it

Taskbar settings, this is something that you would have thought UE-V should be able to do out of the box, but it doesn't seem able to. For bookmarks it depends what browser you're using, we do it using Edge by setting the "Keep favorites in sync between Internet Explorer and Microsoft Edge" policy. You can then set a folder redirection policy to redirect Favorites,and that seems to work OK for us. For Chrome there's a group policy called "Roaming Profile Location" that I believe will allow you to roam bookmarks.

 

The other solution may be to use FSLogix Profile Container to redirect the entire user profile. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/fslogix/configure-profile-container-tutorial
