I can’t get Sims to write to connect.ini.

Anyone know why this could be?

I’be just set up new GPO settings and first time running sims and wondering why users can’t write to C: drive.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks.

A way around this, is to open notepad as administrator, and then click open from within the programme and navigate to the connect.ini file.

Weirdly i was doing this last thing today!

doesn't let SIMS edit the file though unfortunately.

Shouldn't Windows create a new connect.ini in the VirtualStore folder (which is writable by the user)?

My understanding of VirtualStore is that it only applies to pre-vista software?

It does seem to do that sometimes, which is annoying when it only fixes the problem for 1 user, and doesn't tell you.

Main question is why is SIMS written for Windows 3.1? Who's paying for such rubbish? Stop paying until they fix it.

The point was that SIMS doesn't do that.

also, it's not 16 bit software.

I just had a quick look on a couple of my school PCs and both FMS and SIMS do write to the VirtualStore folder. In the case of SIMS it seems like it's just the SIMS.ini file however.

Either way they need write access to a place they shouldn't need write access to, they're doing it wrong and you're still paying them, not going to encourage them to fix it if they're not punished.
