jr_ Posted June 28, 2022 Posted June 28, 2022 They could use cloudflare CDN for free and it comes with ssl
FN-GM Posted June 29, 2022 Posted June 29, 2022 Yeah site login and password management/registration is done via https but the full site will be going fully https when we move over platform soon. The mobile app full https as well. Any idea how when soon is please? Over 2 years later and we still aren’t there. 3
supportman Posted July 8, 2022 Posted July 8, 2022 @ZeroHour do you need some help with this at all? I've migrated several VBulliten forums to XenForo in the past with success. The best thing to do in my experience, is upgrade to a simple basic forum then add any customisations over time. Also whack it on cloudflare for their auto SSL and you should have a nice modern forum going forwards, with ddos protection and advanced firewall and rate limiting. 1
FN-GM Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 (edited) We were fairly close then I spotted a major problem with the import and post tags which would have effected thousands of posts. I am testing redirects right now so every link still works. Its a lot lot closer than before and closer than you think Covid with the schools closed didnt help as my partner was a key worker and I was strongly keen to avoid covid as well because of having had pneumonia in the past. I was having to teach the kids and deal with the local school who had no idea how teams worked but yet they had to do everything over it. I know its been a hell of a wait but initially when we didnt go https there were quite a few issues (not certs, I have dealt with them for years) system wise that prevented it and I worked around them for logins and mobile app. As much as all of this seems straight forward there is a lot that goes on in the background with both this existing system and the new system we are moving to that caused delays. I can only apologise for the delays but like I say we are hoping to get past this soon. It's been over a year since this post - are we any closer please? Edited October 28, 2022 by FN-GM 1
Primus Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 It is very disappointing that we're seemingly no closer.
dmj Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 To be fair most of the major browsers only announced discontinued support for HTTP a few years ago - and this is an educational site, we all know educational is at least 10 years behind the curve - so arguably its on track for the rest of the industry.
dmj Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 I forgot to mention the increased security around not having the latest OpenSSL crits to patch
Primus Posted October 28, 2022 Posted October 28, 2022 My main frustration is we talk on here about best practice and we're doing it on a site that is massively not following best practice. It's become entirely ridiculous now - come on, enough is enough - how many more years are we going to be promised that HTTPS is coming before it actually does.
Dos_Box Posted October 29, 2022 Posted October 29, 2022 (edited) I know this has been dragging on and I can only apologise. We had been due to roll this out during the summer but got postponed due to a family matter I had to spend quite an amount of time from May helping out with. This came to an end in late September and I am back in the office now. But I have had to spend the past couple of weeks catching up on work. I shall be letting you all know more on Monday and I am VERY keen to get this sorted out as quickly as possible. Once more, I’m sorry for the delay, and I know it’s been a long time coming but if you had been in my shoes this year you would have done the same too. Edited October 29, 2022 by elsiegee40 4
Dos_Box Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 My apologies for the delayed response here, we had to get several ducks to line up last week before I could. We are to get the mods to begin testing the new site this week all being well. Once we are happy with how it looks, we should then be doing a test phase where we shall be asking for volunteers to go over it for us before we pick a date for it to go live. I’d like to add more and give definite timelines, but these will only become apparent once we get further down the testing route. I’ve attached a screengrab below, but please note that this is a ‘base’ install without any of the plugins, customisations and add-ons we intend to incorporate.
supportman Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 (edited) Sounds great, nice to hear progress. Sign me up for any testing, I'm an experienced forum admin. What's the forum software out of interest? Edited November 7, 2022 by supportman 1

Dos_Box Posted November 7, 2022 Posted November 7, 2022 Thanks all, we shall be letting you know when the time comes.
elsiegee40 Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 There have been one or two hiccups, but I just wanted to confirm that the mods do indeed have access to the test site 2
XiJ Posted December 1, 2022 Posted December 1, 2022 Dammit. I had money on SIMS in the cloud coming out before Edugeek https ! (glad the mods are testing and hoping it goes smoothly) 1
koryo Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I do hope this is implimented soon, I recall spotting requests/advice for https to be used site wide on the edugeek website approximatly 4-5 years ago. Fingers crossed the testing goes well and can be implimented quickly!
Arthur Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I recall spotting requests/advice for https to be used site wide on the edugeek website approximately 4-5 years ago. @Geoff created a thread regarding HTTPS on 11th February 2013 so this year will be the tenth anniversary. 🎂 I'm looking forward to it as well. 1
robk Posted January 14, 2023 Posted January 14, 2023 I can confirm that over Christmas, I got access to the new edugeek test site. From my view, all looks good. We need to do slightly more testing, but there is actually a new site in existence! 2

Dos_Box Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 It's being worked on. I would show you a screengrab I took this morning, but it looks like an internet version of a pic of someones bathroom halfway through being re-done!
