jhothersall Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Afternoon, we currently have 40+ projectors which are Dell 1510x but we have started changing these to Dell 1550. So far most of these have been swapped, these do have a slighty larger throw distance.. The problem we have is we can't get hold of Dell 1550 projectors anymore (Got the last 4 for £350 each), and we cant move the throw arms as we are a ex-BSF school, and to do this will cost us basically about £400. Has anyone got experience in a different brand we could go. We cant afford to change these all at once, but want a model that has a bit of support on still. Ideally I want a filter less and bulb less, so LED, but we cant move the arms in anyway ... Any ideas ? Thanks James
localzuk Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 In my experience, Casio projectors were always good for having a great adjustable throw distance - might be worth taking a look at. They are LED/Laser too, so no replacing lamps. The XJ-V10X should be a fairly drop in replacement I think? The lens is roughly in the same spot as well, so you shouldn't get any "off centre" issues. Might be worth trying one. 1

Chris_Cook Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Casio are good. Most of ours have been problem free. I prefer the epsons - they have better image quality and the pricing on lamps and projectors is pretty decent. Lamps seem to last ages in eco mode. Something like an EB-X39 or X41 would probably work well for you as long as you aren't at the limit on throw distance for your current projectors. 1

timbo343 Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 We use Epsons, the EB-X range. We have and still got a load of X20 and X27 projectors which have been faultless! Only one bulb gone since 2014. Even at £80 for a new bulb which turns out to be brighter than the one supplied in the projector. 1
Fazza Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Take a look at Epson projectors - they have something called quick corners which means you can 'move' the image left/right. We replaced 50+ orange Sahara projectors with Epson ones without having to change the ceiling mounts (as the Sahara projectos had the lens on the opposite side to everyone else). 2

SamanthaD Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 We're an Epson house - using the laser models and love them! Disappointed with the Casio LED's we've installed in previous years, we've all but replaced them now. My advice - do the maths and get the right lens for your throw distance above everything else (ideally in the middle of the zoom range). Yes there's a lot of options for scaling and quick cornering etc, but ultimately these affect image quality. Taking the time to get it right on paper means an easy install later on. And don't be afraid to move install points if you need to - yes it may cost money but if it's in the wrong place now it'll always be in the wrong place and so the install will always be compromised.

PotNoodleTech Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 Some of the casio bubless ones have a ridiculous throw/zoom distance which caters for all but the most largest or weirdly shaped rooms.
Rob_D Posted February 7, 2020 Posted February 7, 2020 At my last school we went from DELL 1500 series to Epson EB-X series (X11 back then) projectors without having to move the mounts. Between the physical zoom/resize and the quick corner they have bags of adjustment range.
