Guest Guest Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 We've just moved to Exa and compared to our previous filtering solution SurfProtect is great. However, I'm having an issue with occasionally sites not loading or loading very slow and "waiting for proxy tunnel" is displayed at the bottom of the browser. If I hit F5 the site loads fine Unfortunately, were not a direct a customer of Exa and therefore can't go direct to support and our resellers support isn't the best. Has anyone else experienced this, if so how did you get round it? We're using the ad.quantum.exa-networks.co.uk proxy Any help is greatly appreciated
Guest Guest Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 Group policy preferences, the GPO was created by the setup script provided by Exa
mavhc Posted February 4, 2020 Posted February 4, 2020 So it's not using wpad, pac files etc? Set directly?
XiJ Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Do you have visibility of live traffic? Occasionally a resource can be allowed ie bbc.co.uk but some content server might still be blocked. I’ve seen this create slow down rather than an outright block page.
Guest Guest Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 I don't no. I don't think it's anything getting blocked as this happens with a Google search and the page is displayed as expected
mavhc Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 (edited) I'd install wireshark and record some logs. 2 issues I've had are: 1. pages taking ages to classify, can't open the dell support chat because the subdomain changes every time for example. 2. http post requests sometimes fail, mostly notice then when posting to Edugeek, a reload and agree to resend data works after 1 or 2 tries normally Edited February 5, 2020 by mavhc
Michael Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 Try resetting the browser - presumably IE and/or Chrome back to factory defaults. This can resolve a lot of issues.
dobbyit Posted February 5, 2020 Posted February 5, 2020 We had this issue and had a product called esafe for our keyword monitoring, really slowed down our internet as it intercepted the traffic before displaying, could take 7-10 seconds to load bbc. Spent about 3 weeks problem solving, we removed esafe went to 1-2 seconds to load.

Sounds like you have surfprotect quantum actually, I'm with Exa directly at our school but we use the older surfprotect system provided over ICAP without the AD GPO setup. Works fine for 99% of the time, we've had to build quite an extensive blacklist and whitelist we added manually to the automated setup but it's pretty much as we like it now.

Give them a call on 0345 1451234 or email [email protected] and they will help you.
timbo343 Posted February 6, 2020 Posted February 6, 2020 Just to let the original poster know, we see the exact same issue with our Smoothwall too so i feel it's not directly Exa's fault.
Guest Guest Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Turns out we cant go direct, at the request of Link2ICT all issues have to be reported via them in the first instance

Guest Guest Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 The decision to stay with them was made before I even started. Would've gone direct if it were up to me
stevenlong1985 Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 Hi Kieran, there should be no proxy and all settings turned off.
Guest Guest Posted February 10, 2020 Posted February 10, 2020 We're using AD integration so this requires proxy settings
