maark Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 using Sophos XG firewall with build 1803 we added a top level firewall rule to msftconnecttest.com and msftncsi.com as windows showed no internet connection even though there was a connection. This fixed it - however on a trial build of windows 1909 this has come back. Can browse internet on any browser but status icon show no internet which then causes problem logging into office 365. Logged call with Sophos and they say it is a computer issue. Logged call with Microsoft and they say it is a firewall issue - claim nothing has changed in internet detection - although a different icon shows in taskbar. Anyone else experienced this or got a suggestion? Have tried wired and wireless and different wireless network not on radius. Can browse to msftconnecttest.com ok.
chazzy2501 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 There is a GPO setting to turn that notification off 1
E_G_R2 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Not that this reply will help in any way but I had/have a similar issue. Users get a yellow triangle in network connection and says no internet. However they get internet BUT NOT O365!!!! I use Kaspersky endpoint and the solution was/is to role out latest network agent and then update endpoint version. Is there something similar in SOPHOS? 1
maark Posted January 21, 2020 Author Posted January 21, 2020 will check gpo with sophos the agent runs on DCs - there is an update for xg - will try and apply it when i get chance
RLR Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 I had this issue for a while but never needed a reason to fix it due to internet was working. Since using Google Drive File stream I think the API uses this as an indicator to see if the machine is online. This stopped Google Drive file stream from syncing for many of our users so had to spend time looking into it. I tried a lot of things but the one that fixed it for us was to create a reg key that changed the default hop count. On this website: https://support.umbrella.com/hc/en-us/articles/230900948-Umbrella-Roaming-Client-Microsoft-Windows-Limited-Network-Connectivity-Warning-Yellow-Triangle- Ctrl+F : "Adjust Passive Polling Parameters" I think it has something to do with the default max hop count being set to 8. So if there's more than 8 hops, it thinks you don't have internet. 2

Mike8080 Posted January 21, 2020 Posted January 21, 2020 Not sure it's entirely the same but I was getting 'Action Needed' on my wifi connection. I came across a registry change to fix it: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\EnableActiveProbing change from 1 to 0 1

PyROm Posted February 12, 2020 Posted February 12, 2020 Just came across this today as rolling out 1909. We use smoothwall and although msftconnecttest.com is whitelisted it needed exempting from authentication as well.
