Just wondering if anyone from schools are using Polar Backup.

 

2 x 5TB accounts 1 of them paid for, the is other free on this offer.

A Finnish company says on their site they are GDPR compliant.

 

Is it a good deal?

We currently pay about £130 annual for 25GB

Why not just use office 365 as you can get 5TB per email for free, or Google Drive if your in education.

One problem with using OneDrive is that there's a 10GB max file size limit.

 

We use Google for our cloud backups - it's free for education, unlimited storage, including max file size limits of 5TB (though there is a 750GB download limit, where you get throttled if you reach than that in a 24 hour period). Sure, it doesn't incorporate into VEEAM or anything, but we use RClone to sync our synthetic full backup files

Set up a friend with this the other night, got another black friday deal which was only 1Tb for the same price (Typical, but still pretty good for Lifetime and he's only utilizing a third of that space). It works well, its by Zoolz and their client works pretty well - chugs away in the background looking for changes and uploading stuff. I have Zoolz myself I got a few years ago on another lifetime deal.

 

I've used Zoolz to protect the same friend's small business server a few years which proved its worth when his SBS server got wiped out from a malware attack - I managed to recover all of his data and get him up and running again within a day.

 

But, here in the school I've setup Google Drive with Cloud Sync from a Synology NAS unit to back up a 'mission critical' stuff and that's free.

In my experience you dont get throttled, you get cut off with API denies thouh you can work around this by using a Team drive with several accounts on it as the limit is per account if I recall.

True. However bear in mind OneDrive is not a file backup solution. I never saw a file over 100GB in a user’s File Server homedrive, so I see OneDrive as fit for purpose.
