Show This PC on desktop Students

I cant find a to add This PC to students desktop. Does this have to be done via Regedit?

It looks like it does have to be done in the registry (or via a Group Policy Preference item):

 

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\HideDesktopIcons\NewStartPanel\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} - 1 to hide, 0 to show

Or you can just drag This PC from the Start Menu to your desktop, then copy and paste the shortcut to your redirected desktop folder.

I do what @Katy suggested, but during OSD.

I used the shell items option in GPP this week. Worked a treat.
