mossj Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Can you connect to it with a FTP client? If so you should be able to simple rightclick the root and change permissions (to '777'), making sure to change it back to the relevent permissions afterwards (should be somewhere on the Joomla site).
blackcat Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I can connect via FTP and just tried what you suggested, but no luck. I still get the Restricted access message. The FTP client looked like it was changing the permisions, but when I checked the files, they hadn't changed. I'm thinking of building it on my pc and uploading, but not sure if I will still run into the same problems. Maybe the helpdesk will contact me soon. Thanks for your help
portseven Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 I didn't think the FTP protocol didn't have the abilty to change permissions as its just a File Transfer Protocol. You will have to logon to the plesk control panel and change permissions with the file manager component on that. It's not the greatest interface and quite long winded to change permissions, but it does its job.

Tapiochre Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Hi all, Having spent a number of evenings fighting with the permissions logic crossover between Joomla (both 1.5.22 and 1.6.0) and the EMBC server setup (Joomla is a bit of a pig), I have finally come to a good setting that seems to be both secure as well as being a set that "works", allowing the installation of Joomla, plugs, modules and components. It involves a number of interesting FTP settings, as well as the generic permissions for files and a couple of folders. There are still a couple of anomalies but I'm pretty much there. If anyone wants the 'BlueBook' that I am currently setting up for my installs, if it will help you, let me know via a PM and I'll get a copy to you. Chris
