DSapseid Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 My music teacher has come to me and has asked for something that does the below: Allows one input from PC (3.5mm Jack) Allows one input from Music Keyboard (1/4" Jack) 2 Pair of headphones Basically he has desks with a desktop pc with Ableton loaded on and a music keyboard on a shelf and he uses either or with different years/classes and currently has to move around headphones with cable splitters and adaptors from one to the other and they keep going missing/get broken. Wants one device that can basically take the inputs from either/both devices and then send the audio to the headphones. Anyone got anything similar? Had a quick look on google but only coming up with the cheap headphone splitters that we have currently. Or are we being to ambitious with what we want?

bald_pig Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 You can get audio switcher boxes, that take 2 3.5mm inputs and have a button to switch the inputs, and combine that with the headphone splitters, but I'd be more inclined to tell the teacher that they should be keeping a better eye on equipment instead!

Yep. You could probably save a few quid by using RCA switches (some on Amazon under £5) but then you'd have to buy more adapters. SamanthaD Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 Do you want to switch between keyboard and PC, or mix between the 2? (IE do you need a switch or a mixer?) Do your PC's have a separate audio input and output, or are they combined? (Can you use the PC as a mixer, take the keyboard output and plug into the PC, then mix on the PC using the normal Windows volume controls) Do you want independent volume control of the 2 sets of headphones? (Headphone splitter or headphone amplifier?) Sam.

So he's identified an area where equipment gets damaged, he's trying to do something to prevent it and you want to suggest to him that he's not doing his job properly? Seriously? Seriously? If equipment is going missing because it has to be unplugged and plugged back in, and the pc and keyboard are close enough to be cabled to a switcher, then adding the switcher isn't going to prevent anything.

If students don't have to unplug and move equipment because they've got splitters then that's going to resolve the issue?
