Edugeek is highly rated

I don't know if the non-mods have realised, but Edugeek rates highly in google searches - its starting to become a bit wikipedia like in its front page placement.

 

This was highlighted for me after I'd mentioned Kerpoof and then a few days later - a Kerpoof rep was on the thread giving info.

 

I wondered how/why they had suddenly appeared and just googled for kerpoof and low and behold- Edugeek is third on the page!

Lots of SEO work has made that possible

I have done a lot of things to help us rank better. Google now may index new posts in less then 20 minutes after posting.

The other thing that helps is that everything is original content (ie the forum posts) and we tend to link to a lot of sites (and hopefully they link back).

I noticed this, questions i have put the site search and not found i put into google and it sends me back here to the correct post

Is that a bad thing?

 

I certainly do that - it just works better. the biggest annoyance in the search here is the forced 30 second wait between searches. I can often see I've put in the wrong term (mis-spelt it, not made it narrow enough etc) very quickly and so I want to try another search but can't. That makes it quicker to go to Google and stick "site:edugeek.net" after the terms I would have used.

It was actually set at 10 seconds per search but I have reduced it to 5 seconds to see how it goes.
