Also, if you've slaved over your network diagrams sufficiently (think Arnold Rimmer and his Astronavigation exam revision timetable) they should be works of art in themselves.

I've said this before but it bears repeating

 

When I worked in 'industry' I supported a computer room who had responsibility for a customer service centre with a few thousand users on the computer system

 

I had a very good relationship with the computer room manager - who, after several staff "readjustments" ended up as the only tech on site - she was a basic very intelligent working class scouse woman with a vocabulary to match - we got on well!!

 

Anyway - if she was desperate she would ring

 

is it the terminal server - no

have you checked - yes ( I had given her some routines that checked it out)

is the terminal OK - no

does the caps lock light come on - no

is it plugged in - YES

is it plugged into the mains - YES

is it switched on at the mains

 

F**K - phone slams down

 

 

then she would ring back 10 minutes later and apologise - and I would sympathise - and life would go on

 

when I stopped laughing
