cheaptonersucks Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 Hi, The librarian cannot take anymore pain with regards to the horrendously slow, unreliable and expensive Cloud based Capita Eclipse software. The librarian wants to move to a different provider and particularly likes the look of Oliver, but the data migration costs are far too high for us. The only other software that the librarian is interested in is Libresoft, so I was wondering if any of you are using Libresoft, and if so, how fast and reliable is it please? The librarian mentioned that they can have a demo, but demo's don't always show the full picture, so any experiences, good or bad with Libresoft would be very helpful. Also, is the support very good from Libresoft as it's been awful from Capita! They basically blame the schools internet connection speeds or network for their poor product! Yet we have no issues with any other cloud based software! Thanks in advance.

steveg Posted October 8, 2019 Posted October 8, 2019 We went from reading cloud to libresoft and could not be happier. Librarian loves it, I find it easy to manage, quite simply it just works. Migration was included in the price and was very smooth, bit of tidying up of the data to do afterwards but that was because it was bad before. Couple of hours work at most and been perfect since. As mentioned above, be careful to give enough notice to cancel reading cloud. 1

They have been through hell in the Library, with the hosted version of Eclipse in terms of how slow it is and how unreliable it has been. Not to mention the support staff at Capita blaming our network!

You mentioned that it's miles better, so I wondered if you are referring to Capita reading cloud or Librasoft? The main issues the librarian has had with reading cloud is that is horrendously slow at times. The librarian would just love something that works and is reasonably quick as Eclipse hosted has caused huge problems when they have very large amounts of book returns for example.

Chaniel Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 We're moving to Accessit this half-term as well from a locally hosted version of Eclipse.net, we didn't move to CRC due to all the backlash and feedback from local librarians so thought it'd be best to wait. We had LibreSoft demo'd to us with a few other local schools and our librarian thought it was ideal for primaries and looked really good, but was missing a few of the key features she needed (like reporting on PP students) in a secondary. We were told that they were still rapidly developing it and it was clear that it was designed well with school librarians in mind. In the end, we booked a web demo of Accessit and have chosen to go with that... so I guess I can report back after half term to see how it's going? Where does this software sit price wise? For a school of 1000 pupils, the pricing is just under the annual cost of CRC (or the pricing we got for it in 2017). Your year 1 costs will be higher though as you do have to pay for data migration and training. 1
TwistedHelixis Posted October 9, 2019 Posted October 9, 2019 We are using reading cloud and found that we had been using the wrong url, the url should also include the school reading cloud number. After adding that everything seemed to run much better. 1

I wonder if that's a carryover from the original MLS (Pre-Capita) setup, because it certainly doesn't seem to be what you'd expect from someone who handles this sort of thing day in, day out. supportman Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 No idea why anyone would use Capita for their library systems.... many better products out there. We use softlinks Oliver, fully cloud based, works great. 1
